About the Placement:

Detailed Placement Description

Selling crops for the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) system. Going to twilight meetings provided by New York State Dept. of Agriculture. Visiting farmers markets and other farms that sell through them. Learning the fundamentals of beekeeping. Supporting the development of community within the CSA and participating in the educational program that teaches about local foods, food justice, care of the earth, and the problems with the current U.S. food system.

About the Internship

Training Hours:

40 hours weekly

Training Expectations :

Will be training along with head farmer Joe O’Brian 5-6 day week.

On-Site Training, Steward’s primary activities :

Greenhouse planting and transplanting. Cultivation and fertilization of a raised bed system. Planting and harvesting of crops.

Climate and Location Description

The farm is locate 65 miles from New York City in a semi-rural area of upstate New York. We are 3 miles fromthe towns of Chester and Goshen. There is public transportation from eith town into New York City. Typical weather in this region is warm, somewhat humid form April through September with cooler temperatures in October and November

Compensation :

$600/month, Free, daily food

Accommodations and amenities provided :

The housing is a private room at a retreat/conference center located at Harmony Farm in Goshen NY. The steward will have access to kitchen, living room, private bathroom, laundry facilities, and internet access. The center will have guests throughout the year in a seperate section of the building. Once the Steward passes a driving test and has been registered with the insurance company, she/he will have access to a van for local driving.
