About the Placement:

Detailed Placement Description

Twenty-five acre fully sustainable farm located on the slope of Maunakea mountain at 1500 feet elevation with ocean and mountain views. Production includes: Palm oil, vegetable, Inoculated Deep litter Piggery system (no washed-down system with no smell, no flies) , livestock feed production and On-Farm bio-energy production. No tobacco, alcohol or non-prescriptive drugs.
Accommodations includes: two bedrooms apartment with full bathroom and kitchen, laundry room, utilities (electricity and water) and internet service. diet from farms produce.
Cultural activities: Hawaii county Fair; lunch at Maku’u farmer’s market; Diner at Kalapana festival market; Swimming in geothermal heated pond and Hawaii beaches; Visit to Hawaii geological sites (volcalno; maunakea observatory; water falls; black, green and white sand beaches, …); Pahoa 2015 lava flow site.
Languages spoken: English, French, Romanian.

About the Internship

Training Hours:

38 hours per week

Training Expectations :

Respond in a timely way to all inquiries and monitoring activities of the supervisor; follow host’s guidelines required for the training

On-Site Training, Steward’s primary activities :

Sustainable natural farm management; tropical fruit production and processing management; operation and maintenance of “soil and water conservation” practices; livestock nutrients management; on-farm production and use of renewable energy management

Climate and Location Description

tropical climate. temperature: minimum/max 55/85 degree Fahrenheit. Farm located 15 mile from Hilo international airport and 1/4 mile from freeway, schools, churches and shopping center. Easy access to public transportation.

Compensation :

USD $800/month, two bedroom apartment with full kitchen, bath and laundry room (rental value=$1,200.00/month), Free internet service
