About the Placement:

Detailed Placement Description

We are an integrated biodynamic farm growing herbs that we then value add into a line of herbal medicines and skin care. We have livestock and are now also beginning vegetables to provide for a CSA and sell at local farmers markets. We are embedded into the local community and have collaborations with Camphill Communities California, the Santa Cruz Waldorf School, and the local branch of the Anthroposophical Society

Training Hours:

40 hours

Training Expectations :

We expect trainees to be available 8 hours a day Monday-Friday. Occasional weekend work may be required as well but then days off during the week will occur. Must be able to be physically active and lift at least 50 pounds. Supervision will be provided by the owners.

On-Site Training, Steward’s primary activities :

We are a very diverse farm and expect our trainees to be willing and able to also be diverse in their approach here at the farm. This includes but is not limited to: farm maintenance basics, sowing seeds and transplanting, weeding and watering of crops, compost making and maintaining of the piles, making and applying soil and plant sprays (organic/biodynamic only), harvesting and processing of herbs, herbal product making, farmers market sales, basic livestock chores such as feeding, cleaning stalls, watering, fermentation of vegetables, attending study groups, and working with farm volunteers.

Climate and Location Description

We are in central coastal California. Weather is typically moderate with summer time temperatures in the 70’s and 80’s. Winter can be wet and cold but it rarely freezes here.

Trailer accommodation with additional common space/ community kitchen area, Free, daily food, On site Workshops are available and free for employees and apprentices. We have/offer a weekly study group studying the Agriculture lectures.
