About the Placement:

Production Acreage : 3ac, intensive
This placement is owned and operated by two male partners.
Number of Full-time Stewards: 1-2 MESA stewards, 1-2 local apprentices, occasional volunteers and part-time employees in summer
My farm/organization is: Certified Organic
I am an active member of : Winrock International Farmer-to-Farmer volunteer program (India, Nepal, Senegal, Guinea); long time member, Board of Directors, Fayetteville Farmers Market.
Educational Activities :
daily yoga practice with instruction;
periodic on-farm classes on select topics (irrigation, propagation, etc.); farm visits to other farms in area
Number and Type of livestock : no livestock

About the Internship:

Training Hours:

40 hours / week plus optional assistance at Farmers Market on Saturday

Training Expectations :

Timeline: Seasonal training, ideally between April and November / Sales/Marketing operations: Stewards participate in most Saturday morning Farmers Markets in Fayetteville (extra compensation for market participation–leave farm 4:15 a.m., set-up 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., sell from 7:00 to 1 p.m.–rest of day free for town activities. Our farm strongly prefers the steward who prefers the quiet beauty of Nature to the excitement of city life; loves to work outside with crops (and has enough experience in the field to know whether this is true);is athletic and enjoys physical work and its challenges; is tolerant of heat, cold, and insects; has an open mind and tolerance of others with different religious beliefs, race, or sexual orientation; has a sense of humor; is interested in learning yoga or meditation.

On-Site Training, Steward’s primary activities :

greenhouse propagation of seedlings; field bed preparation,transplanting,weeding; harvesting and post-harvest handling;
marketing of vegetables and cut flowers (farmers market, restaurants, and wholesale)

Proximity to nearest town/city: Berryville, 15 mi / Fayetteville, 50 mi

Sept-Nov: 25-70 F.

No public transportation available in the area.

Compensation :

nice student room in new building, Free, daily food, Center for AR Food and Farming monthly field trips of local farms

Accommodations and amenities provided :

Room in upstairs of big timber frame barn or new guesthouse. Private room, shared bathroom, shared kitchen and common areas. Fiber optic wi-fi available.
