Brief Placement Description
School of Adaptive Agriculture hosts a 3 month residential training program in sustainable agriculture, located on a 5,000 acre working ranch in California.
Detailed Placement Description

This is a unique experience on a diverse working ranch, with lots of opportunities for learning about vegetable production at multiple scales, orchard management, grain production, beef, pork, poultry, and sheep production, and more. The courses and field trips are designed to give a broad spectrum of learning related to sustainable agriculture.

Training Expectations :

This program involves participation on classes and labs, hands on learning in the field with crops and livestock, and living on site with a group of students for three months. Weekly field trips and events are offered, in a structured learning environment.

On-Site Training, Steward's primary activities :

Coursework: Soil science, crop science, animal science, business management, industrial arts, community living.
Field work: Crop production, orchard work, livestock work.

Climate and Location Description

Spring term can be cold at night and sometimes wet, transitioning to very hot in the day by the end of the term. Summer term is very hot and dry until the end of the term when there is potential for rain.

Compensation :
Free housing not available, but have or can help find affordable housing.
Accommodations and amenities provided :

Students live in a private canvas wall tent, 10' x 12', with access to shared kitchen, bathhouse, bathroom, and schoolhouse. Wifi is available as well as a computer in the classroom.
