About the Placement:

Detailed Placement Description

Devil’s Gulch Ranch is somewhat isolated, but near a small friendly town with a catholic church that has welcomed several interns in the past. We are 1.2 hour by car from several small cities ( Pt Reyes, Petaluma, Fairfax, San Rafael, San Anselmo (and 1.5 hours to San Francisco and Oakland/Berkeley. All these locations have many cultural activities and some public transportation. A car will be available for use. Opportunities to visit other farms in the area can be arranged.
Our philosophy is to create a sustainable farm that produces high quality, environmentally friendly meat products. We believe people should know where their food comes from so we have numerous opportunities for people to see what we do, including a summer camp on the farm with the YMCA.

Primary Production :

Sheep, Pork, Poultry, Goats, rabbits, pigeons, vineyard


About the Internship:

Training Hours:

40 hours per week

Training Expectations :

Stewards will assist with a variety of ranch chores. Schedule is flexible with advanced notice. Training and supervision will be done by owners and some employees. Most activities will involve animal management, Farmer’s market sales, distribution and some vineyard work.

On-Site Training, Steward’s primary activities :

Primary activities will be assisting with Rabbitry management, with. many opportunities to work with other species of farm animals and vineyard

Climate and Location Description

The climate is mild. In winter it sometime gets below zero at night. In summer it can occasionally get to the 90-100 ‘s. There is a lake for swimming on the really hot days and plenty of shade from the forest. The ranch os rural, but located near a small community and several larger towns and cities.

Compensation :

$400/month, Camper with toilet/shower in barn, Free, daily food, Access to a car

Accommodations and amenities provided :

Camper; toilet and shower in Barn; Free access to internet, computer, use of a car. Dinner with the family.
