This placement is owned and operated by a non-profit organization.

Number of Full-time Employees: 2
Number and Type of livestock : Some horses and cattle are on site as well as goats. We are considering opening our dairy again and also thinking of including sheep in our grazing plan.

I have participated in Ecology Action’s 8- (February through October) and 12-month (February through Janurary) Internship Program. Ecology Action’s Three-Year Apprentice Program.
I am an active member of Little Lake Grange.
Educational Activities:
One 3-Day Workshops for 8-month Interns and two (2) 3-Day Workhops for 12-month Interns. Sometimes visits to a few local farms.
Social Environment:
Trainees are provided lodging on the farm along with staff, apprentices and/or interns. Golden Rule Community members live nearby. All food is provided and everyone takes turns cooking, especially national specialties. Everyone takes responsibility to keep his or her own area maintained and clean. Periodically tours at the nearby Ecology Action site bring in people from other parts of California, the U.S. and sometimes the world.

Training Expectations :

We offer Year-round training, Seasonal training, ideally between April and October.
Our farm/organization strongly prefers the steward who has some significant farming experience.

Climate and Location Description

Average temperature/Typical weather: 24 to 116 (averages 45 to 100) degrees Fahrenheit. Winter: Cold and rainy. Spring: Cold to cool and rain. Summer: Cool nights and dry, warm to hot days. Autumn: Warm to cool with some rain.
Proximity to nearest town/city: 8 miles/20 minutes to Willits, CA
Geographic Location:
We are in northern California. We are about 3 hours north of San Francisco and 1 1/4 hours from Mendocino on the Pacific Coast, Winters are cool and damp, and summers dry and hot. Spring and fall are nice. There is less work and more time for study in the winter. Summer is mostly work, but trainees have a day and a half off each week during the summer and two of these weekends are for 3 days so other places may be more easily visited.
