My farm/organization is : Pesticide Free, Transitional
We have participated in formal arrangements with 10,000 Girls in Senegal, Wwoof-usa, many other informal training experiences.
Educational Activities: Daily mentoring in sowing, planting, tending, monitoring plant health and adding nutrients, natural pest control, pruning, thinning, weeding, harvesting, cleaning, use of proper tools, packaging, storing, publicizing, marketing.
Interns interact with the local community through deliveries, speaking opportunities, garden tours, and interacting with the producers of value-added products.
Social Environment: Buttercup Farms, Inc. at their Clayton Valley location has several residents living in community – volunteers and members of the local community often come and help with the garden, building maintenance and construction projects.
Interns have weekly experiences in the larger community through outdoor sports like hiking and cultural activities in the Bay area.

About the Internship

Training Hours:

40 hours per week

Training Expectations :

We offer Year-round training.
Our farm/organization strongly prefers the steward who desires to learn to work in a retail environment, handling naturally grown fruits and vegetables.

On-Site Training, Steward’s primary activities :

Sowing, planting, preparation of beds, harvesting, pruning, setting up irrigation, marketing.
Preparation of deliveries to wholesale and retail outlets.

Average temperature/Typical weather: Hot in summer (90s), cool in winter (50s)
Proximity to nearest town/city: 7 miles
Geographic Location:
The farm is located in Clayton Valley at the foot of Mount Diablo. It is surrounded by hiking trails in the Morgan Territory Preserve, small lakes, and horse farms. It is a 15 minute drive away from a supermarket and public transportation.

Variable, Well-furnished yurt, with bathroom/kitchen facilities in the main house, Free, daily food, Bay area cultural activities

Accommodations:
Yurt is shared with other interns/stewards. Bedroom is shared. Bathroom is shared.
Lodging is Simple, with basic amenities (heat, indoor bathroom)
Housing is onsite.

Electric or gas heat, Free, daily internet on-site, Telephone (Free local calls only; must buy own calling card for non-local calls), Easy access to public transportation on days off, Bicycle for excursions to nearby shops/town/public transit (less than 3 miles one-way), Food provided by host to cook your own meals(shared with host and other interns.), Free, seasonal farm products.(Example: seasonal vegetables and fruit)
