This placement is owned and operated by a family.
Production Acreage : #6
Number of Full-time Employees: 6
Number and Type of livestock : Animals for agritourismo purposes only.
My farm/organization is : Certified Organic.
I am an active member of NOFA-NJ, Rolling Harvest Food rescue, CRAFT program (for farm apprentices to visit other local farms)
Educational Activities: Apprentices attend NOFA-NJ events, CRAFT visits to other farms (usually 1 time a month) and we help them identify other opportunities that interest them. We also have them do some work with Rolling Harvest Food Rescue, a nonprofit we helped found that delivers excess produce to area food pantries.
Social Environment:
Farm team is a wonderful community of mostly women (top 3 managers are women) between the ages of 24 – 38. At least one weekly lunch together paid by farm plus at least 1 time a month social events. We also have a clay oven so we host pizza parties for area farmers.

About the Internship

Training Hours:

40 hours per week.

Training Expectations :

We offer Seasonal training, ideally between March and November.
Our farm/organization strongly prefers the steward who wants to learn particularly about growing diversified organic vegetables with focus on market sales and agritourism.
sales/marketing operations: All our markets are on the farm so everyone assists at one market.

On-Site Training, Steward’s primary activities :

Green House; Field cultivation, production and harvest; pack out and storage of vegetables; markets. Help with educational programs on the farm (school-aged children).

Climate and Location Description

Average temperature/Typical weather: Mid-Atlantic state so spring can have freezing temps and summer high is usually 90 F.
Proximity to nearest town/city: 2miles
Geographic Location:
Along the Delaware River, near the towns of Lambertville on NJ side and New Hope on the PA side which are both small, arts towns that rely on tourism (river, canal and historical) with great bike paths and hiking locations. Located 45 minutes from Philadelphia and 90 minutes from NYC.

Compensation :

$500 / every 2weeks, Some meals provided by farm and all vegetables. $100 food allowance/ every 2weeks, Transportation from/to nearest int\\\’l airport and placement, Best participants will be eligible receive add\\\’l $10/hour above the 40 hours per week. will check about workers comp but any injury working would be paid by farm.

House is shared. Kitchen is shared. Bedroom is private. Bathroom is private.
Lodging is Modern & well equipped.
Housing is onsite.

Electric or gas heat, Air Conditioning, TV, VCR/DVD
Computer & Internet for steward use, Free, daily internet on-site, Telephone (Free local calls only; must buy own calling card for non-local calls), Occasional, local use of insured vehicle on days off, with host permission (Only for stewards with valid home country drivers’ licenses or Int’l Drivers Permits), Full or partial food allowance added to monthly MESA stipend to buy/prepare own meals
Free, seasonal farm products. (Example: all veggies)
