This placement is owned and operated by a family.
Production Acreage : #20
Number of Full-time Employees: 8
Number and Type of livestock: 500 Laying Hens
My farm/organization is : Certified Naturally Grown, a grassroots certification that embraces the highest ideals of organic agriculture.
I am an active member of Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture.
Educational Activities : We will visit other farms, have community interaction with other farmers, attend agricultural fairs.
Social Environment: We are a tight group of enthusiastic farmers, mostly 25-40 years of age, open-minded and friendly.

About the Internship

Training Hours:

40 hours per week.

Training Expectations :

We offer Seasonal training, ideally between April and November.
Our farm/organization strongly prefers the steward who has hands-on production experience with our primary crops
We require the steward to arrive with a valid home country Drivers’ License

On-Site Training, Steward’s primary activities :

Vegetable crop production and harvest

Climate and Location Description

Average temperature/Typical weather: 4 seasons. Spring, Summer and Fall are usually not extreme.
Proximity to nearest town/city: 4miles.
Geographic Location:
The farm is in rural Pennsylvania, 11 miles north of Reading, PA, and 10 miles south of the Appalachian Trail.

Compensation :

$10/ hour for 3 months and may increase to $11/hour depending on steward performance., Produce, Eggs, Meat and Fruit

Accommodations:
House will be shared with other interns/stewards and farm staff.
Bed room is private and bathroom is shared.
Lodging is Modern & well equipped.
Housing is off-site and distance to training site is 3miles via a car or a bike.
Amenities:
Electric or gas heat, VCR/DVD, Local library internet only, restricted to one hour per visit, Occasional, local use of insured vehicle on days off, with host permission(Only for stewards with valid home country drivers’ licenses or Int’l Drivers Permits), Easy access to public transportation on days off, Bicycle for excursions to nearby shops/town/public transit (less than 3 miles one-way), Free, seasonal farm products(Example: Produce, Eggs, Meat, Fruit)
