About the Placement:

Detailed Placement Description

We are a diversified vegetable, herb and animal production farm owned and operated by The Center for Discovery whose primary mission is caring for and educating individuals with developmental disabilities. The farm’s mission is to provide year-round food for our residents and students to eat as well as vocational training opportunities for them through our farm based education program as well.

About the Internship

Training Hours:

approximately 40-50 hours per week

Training Expectations :

This position is for experienced growers; the position will be a part of a small but highly efficient team of farmers who perform all production tasks during the growing season from spring greenhouse work through fall field clean-up. The vegetable farmer leads this team and will directly supervise the trainee along with other members of the crew. During the season we work a six day schedule M-Sat. Hours each day are determined as work-load dictates.

On-Site Training, Steward’s primary activities :

Greenhouse work, high tunnel vegetable production, vegetable field production, herb field production, herb drying and processing.

Climate and Location Description

We are at 41 degrees North, and 1400′ altitude; four season climate in the southern Catskills of New York State. Also, we are 100 miles northwest of NYC, which is approx. 2 hours away by car.

Compensation :

12.83/hour, private bedroom and shared bath and kitchen in house with three other farm team members, food produced by farm always available

Housing is described above; also includes computer access and internet service, once a NYS license is obtained, farm vehicles may be used.
