About the Placement:

Detailed Placement Description

Pasture 42 is a 100 acre pasture-based organic farm in the Capay Valley of Northern California. We raise cattle, sheep, poultry, and pigs on irrigated pasture, and also grow olives, fruit, and hay. We sell at 3 weekly farmers markets and a food co-op, and operate an online buying club. We strive to produce the highest quality food, raised in an environmentally and socially conscious manner.
We are located in a beautiful rural area with a strong organic farming community approximately 2 hours from the San Francisco Bay Area.

About the Internship

Training Hours:

40-60

Training Expectations :

Trainees are expected to train/work from 40 to 60 hours per week depending on the season and need of the farm. Trainees will work 5 days a week and have 2 days per week off. Trainees will work alongside and be closely supervised by farm owners and experienced farm employees.

On-Site Training, Steward’s primary activities :

Trainee will participate in animal feeding, rotation, and care, cow milking, egg cleaning, irrigation, hay making, equipment maintenance, farmers market preparation, and (possibly) farmers market sales.

Climate and Location Description

Hot, dry summers, mild winters. Rural location with no easy access to public transportation. However, someone from the farm drives to town almost every day.

Compensation :

$10/hour, Steward to pay $250/month room and basic food

Accommodations and amenities provided :

Private room or trailer, shared kitchen and bathroom, free internet access. Interns and MESA Stewards pay $250/month for food and housing, which can be taken directly out of their pay check.
