Frey Vineyards is located in beautiful Mendocino County. Our County is popular for its wine, ancient redwood forest and the spectacular Northern California coast.
Most members of the Frey clan work in the family business. They also live around the winery.
Our winery is the oldest and largest organic and biodynamic winery in the country. Our farm grows fruits, vegetables and flowers organically and biodynamically. A variety of livestock is raised in the property as well as part of our commitment to sustainability.
Every year, during the Summer months we welcome an agricultural student from France.

About the Internship

Training Hours:

Training Expectations :

The Steward is expected to train ~32 hours per week. The day usually starts at 9 am, except for Summer days when vineyard work might start in the early morning to avoid the hot midday hours. There will be a combination of activities to be performed by the steward in different areas: vineyard, farm, office, warehouse, bottling room, cellar, wine tasting, promotional events and trade shows. The Steward will be supervised by the manager in each area and she will receive training and instructions before performing any work.

On-Site Training, Steward’s primary activities :

Vineyard: Pruning, suckering, leafing.
Farm: Composting. Vegetable, flower and herbs growing.
Office: General office tasks.
Warehouse: Preparing direct to consumer orders for shipping. Cleaning, organizing and record keeping.
Bottling room: Filling bottles into case boxes, labeling boxes, cleaning and organizing.
Cellar: Assisting our wine making team during harvest time.
Wine tasting: Assisting customers in our wine tasting room, cleaning organizing and record keeping.
Promotional events: Assisting during wine tastings to be done offsite.
Trade shows: Assisting the sales team in different organic trade shows.

Redwood Valley is located in Mendocino County, 6.5 miles (10 km) southwest of Potter Valley,at an elevation of 722 feet (220 m). It comprises the northern portion of the Ukiah Valley. It is about 8 mi (13 km) north of Ukiah and 12 mi (19 km) south of Willits.

Compensation :

10.50, The Steward will have a private room in the house of the Matriarch of the Frey family.

Accommodations and amenities provided :

The Steward will have a private upstairs room in the house of the Matriarch of the Frey family. There are two bathrooms to be shared with other interns or family members. The Steward can make use of the kitchen. A place to store and refrigerate her food will be provided. Free WiFi is available. We are about 20 minutes from the nearest town, Ukiah.

6 months, with option to extend up to 6 add’l months if everyone agrees
