1. Describe the Trainee/Steward’s role for this phase

Site Intern at a 12 acre visitor center and educational institution. Supporting our organic garden, micro greens program, tours, workshops and general site maintenance.

2. Specific goals and objectives for this phase

* Work with other interns to develop our small permaculture garden area to gain higher yield in order to supply interns and fall fundraiser produce.
*Gain experience in guiding child and adult groups around the site – raising awareness of the need for sustainable living practices.

3. Primary Supervisor’s qualifications

Adam Goldberg, Program Manager. Adam has a MA in International Education and has extensive experience managing internship and service-learning programs for young adults.

4. What plans are in place for the Trainee/Steward to participate in cultural activities while in the United States?

regular community meals, visits to other environmental non-profits, local town, redwoods, and wineries.

5. Specific knowledge, skills, or techniques to be learned during this phase?

*Developing a functional, permaculture garden
*Working within the non-profit field
*Working with children and adults and developing educational materials

November-December: Orientation to site and not for profit procedures. Training for garden project and educational visits
period.

January-February: Manage with 2 other interns micro greens program and create plan for garden area. Support kids workshops over holiday period. Research best practices in K-12 environmental education. Prep garden area, working with executive director to start planning educational program offerings.
February-March: Clean site for next intern group – create garden guide for summer interns.
