1. Describe the Trainee/Steward’s role for this phase

Clark Farm is comprised of a 4 different enterprises: Organic Vegetable Production /Organic Seedling Sales /Organic Livestock Production / Education Programming

These enterprises all require specific systems in order to run efficiently and profitably.

Trainees will learn the different systems we utilize to be successful. These systems are detailed and constantly analyzed to increase efficiency and profitability.

To understand and follow the systems utilized at Clark Farm

Andrew Rodgers, Farm manager w/20 years organic farming experience

4. What plans are in place for the Trainee/Steward to participate in cultural activities while in the United States?

Participation in CRAFT (a bi-weekly, regional, farmer meeting focused on knowledger transfer), Farm social events, Family get togethers, can attend Several churches near the farm, Trips to the beach

5. Specific knowledge, skills, or techniques to be learned during this phase?

Greenhouse seeding & care /Transplanting /Record keeping /Livestock care /Rotational grazing strategies /Vehicle operation & Tractor operation

6. How specifically will this knowledge, skills, or techniques be taught? Include methodology of training and chronology/syllabus.

Hands on, real time orientation. Trainee will learn on the job. As time passes, the trainee will train more independently.

7. How will the Trainee/Steward’s acquisition of new skills and competencies be measured?

Daily meetings, check ins and evaluation. Trainees will explain systems used to other crew members.

Grow organic vegetables and berries

Field prep / Transplanting /Fertilizing /Pest control /Irrigating /Weeding/ Harvesting /Washing/storing /Moving livestock

Hands on, real time orientation. Trainee will learn on the job. As time passes, the trainee will work more independently.

1. Describe the Trainee/Steward’s role for this phase

There are two parts to phase 3. Trainees will learn and assist in planting out our 4 greenhouses for winter vegetable production and trainees will learn and assist in bringing chickens, lambs, kids to slaughter. During this phase, trainee will learn about greenhouse production of cold hardy crops. Trainee will also learn about winter livestock care and bringing livestock to slaughter

Succesfully grow organic vegetables in our greenhouses for winter production.
Bringing livestock to finished product.

3. Primary Supervisor’s qualifications

20 years organic farming.

4. What plans are in place for the Trainee/Steward to participate in cultural activities while in the United States?

Holidays, Dinners, Social events

5. Specific knowledge, skills, or techniques to be learned during this phase?

Greenhouse care during colder months
Livestock handling during shipping and slaughter

6. How specifically will this knowledge, skills, or techniques be taught? Include methodology of training and chronology/syllabus.

Daily meetings where we will discuss objectives and techniques we will be learning.
Hands on implementation of techniques with manager to ensure tasks are done correctly.

Yields are monitored and are directly impacted by trainees techniques.
Safe slaughter is monitored
