This placement is owned and operated by a family.
Production Acreage : #60

Number and Type of livestock : Cattle – 22 Poultry – 1500 Swine – 28 Sheep – 50
My farm/organization is : Pesticide Free. We use organic practices but our products are not certified. We practice management intensive rotational grazing with our livestock.
We have participated in Rogue Farm Corps in the past.
Educational Activities :
There will be opportunities at neighboring farms to learn about different sorts of farming operations. As educational opportunities come up, the steward will be included.
At the height of our season, we host and/or employ: 2immediate family members, 4U.S. interns or apprentices
Social Environment:
We have 3 to 4 interns on our farm year around, plus occasional WWOOFers. We are also a mile away from a larger farm, Full Belly Farm, which employs five interns and many employees. The steward will also have opportunities to join this crew for social events (volleyball, etc.).
We are in the Capay Valley of Northern California, about 2 hours from San Francisco. Our farm is 60 acres of pasture and hay with a few fruit trees. We also have another field down the road and an olive orchard about 1/2 hour away. There are nearby hiking and swimming opportunities.
We recently (3 years ago) moved our farm from Oregon to California. As a result, an intern will have the advantage of seeing a new operation grow from the ground up, but the disadvantage that we are not yet a well-oiled machine. Please see ATTRA for more information about our farm and operation.

Training Expectations :

We offer Year-round training.
Our farm/organization strongly prefers the steward who is comfortable around large livestock and interested in milking cows.
We require the steward to arrive with a valid home country Drivers’ License.
sales/marketing operations : This will depend on the English proficiency of the steward and on his/her interest in marketing.

On-Site Training, Steward’s primary activities :

Care of livestock including feeding, watering, collecting eggs, milking and other animal husbandry tasks. Care of pastures including irrigating, mowing, haying, fertilizing. Cleaning and processing in the dairy. Washing and packing eggs.
The steward’s participation in any of sales/marketing operations will depend on the English proficiency of the steward and on his/her interest in marketing.
