This placement is owned and operated by a: Non-profit organization/Production Acreage (if applicable): #1 /Number of Full-time Employees: 7 / My farm/organization is: Pesticide Free, Practices GROW BIOINTENSIVE Sustainable Mini-Farming.
I have participated in Ecology Action’s 8-month (February through October) and 12-month (February through January) Internship Programs. Ecology Action’s Three-Year Apprentice Program. / Educational Activities : 8-month Summer Course; One (1) 3-Day Workshops for 8-month Interns and two (2) 3-Day Workshops for 12-month Interns. 3 visits to local farms./ Social Environment:
Trainees are provided lodging at the Ecology Action site land along with staff and interns. Everyone takes responsibility to keep his or her own area maintained and clean. One (1) 6-hour tour and a two-hour special tour bring in people from other parts of California, the U.S. and sometimes the world.
In 2019, the 8-Month Internship is from April l through November 30.

Climate and Location Description

Average temperature/Typical weather: 18 to 116 (averages 25 to 90) degrees Fahrenheit. Winter: Cold and rainy. Spring: Cold to cool and rain. Summer: Cool nights and damp to dry, cool to warm to hot days. Autumn: Warm to cool with some rain.
Proximity to nearest town/city: 8 miles to Willits (20 minutes by car)
Geographic Location:
We are in northern California. The site is about 3 hours north of San Francisco located near Willits, California about an hour inland from the Pacific Coast. Winters are cold to cool and damp/rainy/with a little snow, Summers are dry and cool to warm to hot, Springs are cold to cool to warm and damp, and Autumns are cool to warm. There is less work and more time for study in the winter. Summer is in great part field work with some significant study and planning, but trainees have a day and a half off each week during the summer and two of the weekends are for 3 days, so other places may be more easily visited. A week is also given off in August.

Accommodations:Trailer / Cabin is shared with Other interns/stewards, Farm staff. Bedroom is shared. Bathroom is shared.
Lodging is Simple, with basic amenities (heat, indoor bathroom).

Electric or gas heat, Only a wood stove for heat, VCR/DVD, Computer & Internet for steward use, Free, daily internet on-site, Telephone (Free local calls only; must buy own calling card for non-local calls), Food provided by host to cook your own meals(shared with other interns), Free, seasonal farm products. (Example: Some vegetables, grains, beans, herbs)
